City of Fairmont launches Opioid Settlement Funds Grant program; opens applications

Press Releases Posted on May 05, 2025

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The City of Fairmont has officially opened applications for organizations to apply to receive a portion of the City’s allotment from the statewide opioid settlement.

Organizations that work with – directly or indirectly –  individuals or communities impacted by the opioid epidemic can apply for up to $100,000 in grant funds if they work directly with impacted demographics and $50,000 if they work indirectly.

“The purpose of these grants has always been to address the opioid crisis in our state,” Grant Administrator Rene Graves said. “We wanted to make sure we took a thoughtful approach in our dissemination of these funds, so we created this process to get these dollars in the hands of the organizations on the front line.”

These grants require a 20% funding match from the applying organization. A waiver of match can be provided upon request and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Once submitted, applications will be reviewed and scored by the City's Ad Hoc Opioid Fund Review Committee using a rubric.

“It was very important to me, as a member of council, that we not be frivolous with this money,” Councilmember Rebecca Moran said. “I’d like to thank City Staff for their work in making this as robust of a process as possible. I can’t wait to see what these organizations do with these funds.”

More information about the application process can be found on the City’s website at www.fairmontwv.gov/opioid.
