FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Monday morning, the City of Fairmont welcomed Scott Jolliff as the newest department head in City Hall.
Jolliff will be serving as the city’s building inspector and will oversee the building inspection and code enforcement department. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the position, including an associate degree in mechanical engineering and technology and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering both from Fairmont State University. Jolliff went on to earn his master's degree from West Virginia University in safety and environmental management.
He boasts several certifications in his field, chief of which is his status as a certified Master Code Official through the International Code Council. The Master Code Professional title is defined by the ICC as, “the gold standard for demonstrating proficiency in the code profession.” Jolliff is one of four such professionals active in the state of West Virginia.
Jolliff previously served with the City of Fairmont from 1999 to 2012, where he was the first to act as the department head of code enforcement. After working with WVU as a facilities engineer for the last 11 years, he decided this was the perfect opportunity to return to work for the City of Fairmont.
“This was a good opportunity to come back to the City of Fairmont, to continue the good work Ken Fletcher was doing, to help clean up the city and make it a better place for all our citizens,” Jolliff said.
Fairmont City Manager Valerie Means said Fairmont is lucky to have the opportunity to welcome back someone as credentialed and notable as Jolliff and that exciting things are on the horizon for his department.
“We’re excited to find someone so certified and so up-to-speed with all the regulations and certifications that are required for this position. This is a difficult position to fill so I am thrilled to have him back with us,” Means said. “He’s kept up all his certifications, he’ll be able to hit the ground running and that’s exactly what we need.”
