Press Releases Posted on May 28, 2025

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont City Council agreed to receive a donation from the Rotary Club of Fairmont for $25,000 to be used for improvements to Morgantown Avenue Mini Park.

As part of the resolution, which Council passed unanimously at its May 27th meeting, Morgantown Avenue Mini Park will be renamed “Rotary Club of Fairmont Mini Park” in recognition of the group's contributions.

“The Rotary Club of Fairmont is proud to support a project that brings neighbors together and creates a safe, enjoyable place for families and children. Our contribution will support key upgrades to the mini park, including new playground equipment, landscaping, seating areas, and safety enhancements,” Club President Julie Sawyer said. “The Rotary Club of Fairmont Mini Park is a small but meaningful space, and we’re excited to see it transformed into a vibrant community asset, and just one more way for our Club to make our community a better place for its residents.”

In total, the improvements to the park are expected to cost around $90,000. The $25,000 will go toward paying that total amount. The remaining ~$70,000 will be paid as laid out in Council’s 2025-26 capital improvement plan.

The improvements include two new playsets, including new mulch and borders; new paved pathways; a replacement water fountain and the installation of a new, second water fountain; a new pavilion; and the installation of new security cameras.

“This is the latest announcement in our plan to update and revitalize all our municipal parks. When these improvements come to fruition, the change will be incredible,” City Manager Travis Blosser said. “This $25,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Fairmont sets a new standard for relationships with our community partners, and we hope to continue this relationship and have other partners follow suit.”

City officials will host a groundbreaking for the improvements on June 2, 2025, at 10 a.m.
