POSITION DESCRIPTION

1. POSITION TITLE: Equipment Operator II

2. DEPARTMENT: Public Works

3. PAY GRADE: 120 (Nonexempt)

4. SALARY: $40,048.00

5. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK OF THE POSITION:

The incumbent of this position is responsible for the operation of medium to heavy trucks and occasional operation of some construction equipment. Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the equipment. The employee is responsible for the cleanliness, servicing and light maintenance of assigned equipment, and is expected to report major equipment problems to the street superintendent. Standard procedures are followed and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy in operation.

6. DUTIES OF THE POSITION (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):

On occasion or on a training basis, operates one or more of the following equipment: backhoe, front-end loader, hi-lift, street sweeper, small roller, street flusher, and parks tractor. Does work as a laborer or semi-skilled laborer. Performs minor servicing and maintenance of assigned equipment and refers major problems to the street superintendent. Transports personnel and equipment to and from job site. Operates a dump truck in connection with hauling job materials. Operates dump truck with snow plow and material spreader during ice and snow removal. Does job-related work as assigned and required.

7. DESCRIPTION OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED BY AN INCUMBENT OF THIS POSITION:

The incumbent is supervised by the Director of Public Works, Public Works Operations Supervisor, and/or the Maintenance Superintendent.

8. DESCRIPTION OF SUPERVISION EXERCISED BY AN INCUMBENT OF THIS POSITION:

9. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE WORK:

Knowledge of heavy construction equipment and mechanical operation; good knowledge of traffic and safety rules and accident prevention practices; ability to be trained on any or all heavy

equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction; ability to note and report needed equipment repairs, ability to carry out road maintenance and minor construction assignments with a minimum of supervision; good organizational sense in the supervising of subordinate employees; good physical condition.

10. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE NECESSARY FOR WORK PREPARATION:

High school diploma or GED, experience in the operation of heavy automotive and construction equipment, and a combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must possess a valid Class B CDL with tanker endorsement or must obtain your CDL permit within 180 days and a CDL license with tanker endorsement within one year of your hire date. If you fail to achieve either part of this requirement your employment will be terminated.

Additionally, the employee will be required, at times, to lift, carry or push/pull supplies, materials, equipment and/or items weighing up to 50 pounds while performing the duties of this position. POSITION DESCRIPTION

1. POSITION TITLE: Summer/Student Intern Appointment

***Internship is during summer break for colleges/universities, not to extend

into fall semester.

2. DEPARTMENT: Planning and Development

3. PAY GRADE: 485 (Non-exempt)

4. PAY RATE: $15.00 Per Hour (Not to exceed 32 hours per week) – Part-time position

5. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK OF THE POSITION:

This is an entry level technical position in the Planning & Development Department involving tasks assigned which may be relevant to educational background of the employee. Tasks are often for short range projects or needs pertaining to larger components of adopted strategic or comprehensive plans. The work is primarily internal to the department and does not typically involve direct day-to-day engagement with the public.

The employee must be familiar with software or technical skills relevant to their educational background or currently enrolled educational program.

6. DUTIES OF THE POSITION (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):

Duties vary based upon the educational background or current educational program enrollment of the intern. Educational background and potential duties assigned include but are not limited to the following:

Planning: Reviewing, drafting, and researching planning policy to assist with the implementation of adopted strategic and comprehensive plans; review and analyze data related to various planning initiatives; perform public listening and engagement sessions.

Architecture / Landscape Architecture: Creating graphics for public education, zoning code clarification, or project review; drafting zoning code changes; evaluating existing or proposed site and built environment conditions; create street scape or right-of-way design standards; create concept of public amenities or public site development; Other related duties as assigned.

Geography / GIS: Creating, editing, and evaluating GIS data pertaining to parcel information, impervious surface, demographics, businesses, dwelling units, stormwater, transportation, and much more; creating online interactive maps for public use; assist in creating data related to the review and implementation of adopted plans.

All educational backgrounds may also: Process data; Organize data and files; Conduct field evaluations and assessments; Attend evening and weekend meetings as requested; Other duties as assigned.

7. DESCRIPTION OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED BY AN INCUMBENT OF THIS POSITION:

The incumbent of this position works directly under the supervision of the Director of Planning and Development as well as the Assistant Planner.

9. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE WORK:

Knowledge of principles and practices of research and data collection; Knowledge of effective writing techniques; Statistical, algebraic, or geometric knowledge and ability to apply such knowledge in practical situations; Knowledge of computer programs and applications, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and database management; GIS programs and applications; Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly to the public; Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve practical problems to help address citizen inquiries and concerns; Ability to create graphic designs, development strategies, and render site plans via sketches and/or computer graphics highly desirable; Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously; Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed; Ability to attend to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind; Effective written and verbal communication skills; Thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and commercial arithmetic; good typing skills; ability to compose a variety of correspondence and memoranda with only general instructions.

10. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE NECESSARY FOR WORK PREPARATION:

The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program within a related field (preferably having completed two years of study prior to employment) and hold an interest in community planning and development; demonstrate that they have an exceptional ability to develop positive relationships with a variety of community, business, and government organizations; and is a self-motivated. In addition, the candidate should be proficient with computer software such as ArcGIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat. A valid driver’s license is also required.

11. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
