A major piece of the Planning and Development Department is the creation of plans for the future. These plans are divided into two types, Comprehensive Plans and Strategic Plans. Comprehensive Plans are massive undertakings that combine research and stakeholder input to guide and direct the major plans for the City over the next ten years. These are plans dictate the actions of the Planning Department and must follow a stringent process to implement or amend. Strategic Plans are much smaller in scale and must be tangential to and in line with the overarching Comprehensive Plans. These plans are much less binding and easier to implement.
