Prevention focuses on the early signs of neighborhood destabilization such as property maintenance issues. This includes assistance to homeowners so they are able to keep and maintain their homes for a longer period of time. The goal is to prevent abandonment and deterioration of the building.
Get Organized (GO) is a call to action to neighborhood residents. The idea is that if residents are engaged and empowered in their community, they will actively participate in improving it. Fairmont needs organized neighborhood groups, or GO Teams, to assist with neighborhood policing activities, improve local parks, and communicate with City leaders regarding specific needs of residents. CITI will help incubate these GO Teams to realize a more renewed community.
Remove Barriers addresses the issue of vacant and deteriorated buildings. These BAD (blighted, abandoned, and dilapidated) buildings become barriers to revitalization efforts and must be repaired or removed so that new homes or businesses can be developed. To address this complex issue, the City engages in a variety of actions including enforcement of property maintenance code. See information about our Vacant Building Registry here.
