Building Permits
In this section you will find all necessary information in acquiring a City of Fairmont Building Permit or Zoning Permits.

Building Permits issued shall become invalid unless work authorized by such permit is commenced within 180 days after its issuance. The Building Inspector is authorized to grant, in writing, one or more extensions of time, for periods not more than 180 days each. The extension shall be requested in writing and justifiable cause demonstrated. All building permits are deemed invalid 180 days after the date of filing unless an extension has been granted from a City of Fairmont Building Inspector.

Zoning Permits are needed when a Building Permit is not and often applies to exterior improvements or smaller projects such as sheds, sidewalks, driveways, or fences. Please see the list below for a quick reference on which permit you might need for your project. You can also contact the Planning and Development Department  for more information on Zoning Permits.

Please note that you may use the Building Permit application for Electrical and HVAC improvements also.

If your project is not solely on or more of the above, it is more likely that you will need a Building Permit. Please check with the Building Inspections Department for further clarification.
