Fairmont City Council Candidate Filing Period

The candidate filing period for November's Fairmont City Council election will begin at 8:30 am on Monday, July 7, 2008 and will end at 4:30 pm, on Wednesday, August 6, 2008.  The Council election, to be held in conjunction with the November 4, 2008 General Election, will feature races in the City's 2nd, 4th, 6th and 7th Districts.  All seats for the election are four-year terms, with the winners taking office in January 2009.  Please click here for additional information.

 
 

 

Main Street Fairmont 4th of July Celebration

The Main Steet Fairmont 4th of July Celebration will be held Friday, July 4, 2008 at Palatine Park.  Festivities will begin at 4:00 pm with a parade downtown at 5:00 pm. Music entertainment will be provided by the "JR Farley Band" from 4-6pm, "Carolina Rain" at 6:30pm, and "Trick Pony" at 8:30pm. Governor Manchin will welcome home, Olympic Gold Medalist Mary Lou Retton, at 9:15pm.  Also, fireworks will be provided over the Mon River at 10:15 pm.

 
 

 

Downtown Parking Garage is now under Surveillance

Chief Mark Hayes receives instruction on the new camera system in the Downtown Parking Garage from Gary Soles of GaryCo.  15  (fifteen) surveillance cameras now monitor and record activities 24 hours hours a day inside the garage and in the stairwells as part of a grant from the US Department of Homeland Security.  A final camera is being donated to the City by GaryCo. that will be installed on top of the garage and provide a 360 degree view of Downtown.
